Tainter Lake Rehabilitation District – Slow No-Wake Zone Changes

The TLRD Boating and Safety Committee met Wednesday, January 7, 2026 to discuss changes to the existing slow no-wake zones in the channel on Tainter Lake. During our meeting, each committee member discussed their impressions and feedback that they heard at the public hearing that was held at the Tainter Town Hall on December 3, 2025. Based on public meeting feedback, as well as additional input from lake district residents that was delivered to individual members via text, email, phone calls, or in person communication, the committee decided to take a vote on changing the existing slow no-wake control zones using as a guide the map that was distributed at the public hearing that labeled the proposed changes as options A, B, C or D (see map below). All committee members were in favor of expanding the control zone through option A, which includes the addition of additional buoys near the County Road G bridge pier across from Lamb’s creek landing and one near the mouth of Lamb’s creek. The vote for extending the control zone through option D (Pine Point) was 4-1 against expansion. The vote for extending the control zone through option B & C was 5-0 for expansion. Therefore, our committee recommended to the TLRD Board of Commissioners that the current slow no-wake control zones in “the channel” be extended to include option A, B and C as reflected by our committee’s unanimous agreement. This recommendation was adopted unanimously by the TLRD Board of Commissioners at the monthly meeting on January 15, 2026.

Budgetary impact for 2026: this would not require any additional buoy purchases. There would be minimal extra costs for removing and placing the extra buoys each season.

I want to thank my committee members: Bob Batchelor, Julie Lammer, Deb McGrath, and Lisa Boettcher for their hard work on the committee with a wide range of opinions and input, but ultimately coming together with a unanimous recommendation. I also want to thank the members of the public who attended our meetings, and participated in the process, voicing opinions both for and against changes, knowing that their voices were heard.
